Book and Claim
Book and Claim allows consumers to access the environmental benefits of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) without using the physical product.
Book and Claim allows consumers to access the environmental benefits of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) without using the physical product. It is a chain-of-custody system that decouples SAF's environmental attributes from the physical fuel, allowing aviation operators to purchase SAF and enjoy its sustainability benefits, even when flying to airports where physical SAF is unavailable.
This approach ensures that the environmental benefits of SAF are utilized efficiently, reducing additional carbon emissions from transporting SAF over long distances.

Book and Claim is crucial for business aviation as it provides access to the emissions savings of SAF, even in locations where SAF is not available. Business aviation often operates in small and remote areas where delivering SAF can be costly and impractical. By purchasing SAF via Book and Claim, business aviation customers can demonstrate their commitment to reducing their carbon footprint and support the demand for renewable fuels.
Introducing myWorld Decarbonize: NEW streamlined tool for calculating emissions and purchasing SAF via Book and Claim
The myWorld Decarbonize tool is a streamlined, point-of-sale solution that calculates carbon emissions from fuel burn utilizing World Fuel’s proprietary fuel burn calculator and provides a simplified way to purchase SAF Certificates (SAFc) to balance those emissions. Additionally, myWorld Decarbonize educates users on the benefits of Book and Claim and how it contributes to achieving net zero goals.
Key benefits:
- Seamless SAF purchase: The tool simplifies the process of buying SAF via Book and Claim, making it accessible to all consumers and contributing to a more sustainable aviation industry.
- Accurate carbon calculation: Users can easily calculate their carbon usage by fuel burn, ensuring precise and reliable impact data.
- Educational resource: myWorld Decarbonize educates users on the benefits of Book and Claim and how it contributes to achieving net zero goals.

How is my fuel burn calculated?
myWorld Decarbonize allows users to easily calculate their carbon usage based on fuel burn. World Fuel’s proprietary algorithm calculates fuel burn using various attributes, including weather, aircraft specifications, and historical data, to provide one of the most accurate fuel burn calculations available online.
How are my emissions calculated?
To calculate the emissions associated with every gallon of jet fuel burned, we used the lifecycle analysis CORSIA baseline of 89 gCO2e/MJ or 11.81 kgCO2e/gal. Of this, 15 gCO2e/MJ (1.99 kgCO2e/gal) are associated with upstream production and transportation emissions, sometimes referred to as well-to-tank or Scope 3 emissions of the fuel. 74 gCO2e/MJ (9.82 kgCO2e/gal) are associated with fuel combustion, sometimes referred as tank-to-wake or Scope 1 emissions of the fuel. Fuel emissions are sometimes represented by the associated Scope 1 emissions only and not the full Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) value. We use the CORSIA established LCA because it more accurately reflects the total emissions associated with every gallon of fuel consumed and can be consistently applied for all jet fuel, regardless of the source and location of production.
How were my emissions savings from the SAF I purchased today calculated?
The emissions savings calculated on your certificate use the CORSIA calculation for emissions reductions found in “An Overview of CORSIA Eligible Fuels (CEF),” published by the ICAO Secretariat. Pictured to the right is the formula that is used in the CORSIA calculation.

Carbon offsets vs. insets
Carbon offsets and carbon insets are two strategies used to mitigate carbon emissions, but they operate differently.
Carbon offsets involve compensating for emissions by funding projects that reduce or remove greenhouse gases elsewhere. Examples include reforestation projects or renewable energy initiatives. Carbon insets, on the other hand, focus on reducing emissions within a company's own value chain. This means implementing sustainable practices directly related to the company's operations, such as improving supply chain processes or investing in renewable energy for their facilities
Book and Claim is an example of a carbon inset because it allows companies to reduce emissions within their own value chain by purchasing SAF credits, thereby embedding sustainability directly into their operations.
What should I expect after purchasing SAF via Book and Claim?
After your purchased has been processed, World Fuel will produce a retirement statement and certificate. This could take up to 72 hours, not including holidays and weekends. The statement will include flight details as well as details on any associated fuel specs such as carbon intensity, airport of delivery, and raw materials used in production.
