29TH May, 2018 – Italy– Leading fuel and aviation services provider, World Fuel Services (WFS), has announced that Catania Airport in Sicily, Italy is the winner of its Global Operator of the Year Award. Part of the prestigious Aviation Operations Excellence Awards, the Global Operator Award acknowledges the highest performing WFS operated location.
John Rau, Executive Vice President, World Fuel Services said: “Our awards are representative of our commitment to guaranteeing the highest regional and country-wide safety and service standards across our operated network. We have a commitment to maintaining high standards of performance in everything we do for our partners and customers, and Catania is a fantastic example of this. Catania’s team has been top of class within the WFS network of operated sites and has exceeded expectations on every aspect of the 2017 award criteria. The business has applied a winning attitude to the application of HSE culture in the workplace and has shown the power of brilliant management.”
Winners of the Regional Operator of the Year awards were Geraldton Airport in Australia, and Windsor in Canada. Annual Excellence Awards were received by eight locations including Birmingham, Luton and Bournemouth, UK.
Established by World Fuel Services, the awards programme is designed to recognise excellence in the operation and management of into plane and storage services at WFS Operated facilities. Over 70 locations globally were considered for an award and assessed on performance throughout 2017. Of these, 20 locations met the criteria needed to qualify and 11 received an award.
The airports considered for an award were required to exemplify exceptional operating standards which were monitored upon site inspections and seven health and safety audits for which they needed to achieve 100 per cent or exceed the audit plan requirements.
Pete Edwards, Vice President, World Fuel Services said: “We are official members of best practice governance body, JIG, and ensure our operations meet these standards globally across almost 100 sites within a network of 3,000 locations. Reflecting this, our awards have been deliberately designed to be very difficult to attain so that those who are truly operating at an exceptional standard are recognised for what they have achieved. Congratulations to every site who qualified and particularly those who received an award.”
