There has been a significant change in the nighttime noise restrictions and associated ad-hoc slot availability at London’s Stansted Airport (EGSS / STN) for the 2024 Summer season. Stansted was, until recently, the only London airport that accepted General Aviation / Ad-Hoc flights on a 24/7 basis during the summer period – albeit at a reduced rate of 10-night slots per week.
The night period is classified as being between 2300 and 0700 local time, and the night quota period is classified as being between 2330 – 0600 local time, with a “shoulder period” between 2300 – 23:29 L at night and 0600 – 06:59 L in the morning.
As mentioned, Stansted historically had ten ad-hoc night slots per week; however, during the 2024 summer season (COMMENCING 31 MARCH AT 01:00 L AND ENDING 00:59 L ON 31 OCTOBER 2024 ), the nighttime ad-hoc slot allocation will be ZERO for the season start and will be kept under review. This implies that none of the London airports will accept General Aviation traffic for night operations between 2300 – 0630L during the summer period until further notice.
Care should also be given to flights planning to operate close to the scheduled nighttime restrictions, as delays could affect the ability of the flight to operate or land at EGSS.
A trade association is challenging the above restriction, and the World Fuel Trip Support team will advise feedback once it is available.
